Proposal summary

Oxygen is considered a medicine and is therefore often used to treat patients in various health facilities. Oxygen delivery to hospitals takes place through medical gas networks and is delivered to them either in gases or in a liquid state. Oxygen consumption only in Greek hospitals is estimated at around € 60 million per year and is much higher worldwide. The use of oxygen is done through special devices that regulate its flow and depending on the age, body shape, as well as the condition of the patient, both different amounts and different durations are administered.

It has been found that more than 25% of the average oxygen consumption in a hospital comes either from the negligence of the nursing staff or from the inability of patients to use these devices properly. In conclusion, there is often misuse in the duration of delivery, or in the amount - flow of oxygen, but mostly you fail to stop oxygen delivery when this is not required. The main object of the project is the design, development, characterization and verification in the field of an original oxygen supply control device. The system will be a global innovation and will solve the chronic problem of misuse of oxygen in hospitals, resulting in a reduction in its consumption. The device will consist of MEMS ( MicroElectroMechanical System ) pressure sensor compatible for use in oxygen and sterilization capability, which will perceive the patient's breath. In the Data Processing and Management subsystem, intelligent algorithms will be implemented that will allow the device to be adapted in different cases and the local processing and storage of data. The device details will be displayed on a screen. The Power Management subsystem will allow the device to operate autonomously and maximize battery life, while the Wireless Communication subsystem will implement wireless data transmission.
